A Window on the World of Living Well

My Amsterdam favourites

You can almost find me every week in Amsterdam. This city is famous for many things. What about the flowermarket, the royal palace on the Dam or the red light district and it's canals. But Amsterdam has a lot more to offer. Behind some unexpected doors you will find the best places for lunch, drinks or diner, all with a great interior. In this blog I will share my favourite spots with you. Come and explore Amsterdam through my eyes.

W Hotel Amsterdam

In almost every great city in the world you will find a W Hotel. And ofcourse Amsterdam has it's own W hotel. The bar of this hotel offers you Amsterdam on a complete different level. At the rooftopbar you will find a swimmingpool (love to cool down there on a hot day) and a beautiful terrace. From this place you have an amazing view over the Royal Palace and Magna Plaza. This is a great place to start your day in Amsterdam or end it with one of the many nice cocktails. If you go there for the cocktails, then you really should order the La Vie en Rose (my favourite).

The Duchess

The Duchess is the perfect place to experience the stylish side of Amsterdam. I love to start my day here with a nice cup of tea. And at the Duchess they serve a very good one. On the menu they have a delicious selection of the Mariage aux Frères tea. I always order the "Paris Provence", a very refreshing tea. Served in beautiful porcelain your day starts as a little party. The interior and architecture is a great mix of English style and French elegance.  This place is very suitable for a true gentlemen.

Cecconi's Amsterdam

Nearby the W Hotel and the Duchess you will find the very stylish Soho House Amsterdam. Soho House is only accessible for members, but even if you are not a member you can experience the Soho vibe. On the ground floor you will find the Italian restaurant Cecconi's. This restaurant feels like a jazzclub with vintage furniture and inspiring art. Don't forget to take a look at the beautiful ceeling with plants by The Wunderkammer. Take a seat in one of the comfy chairs and enjoy the international and creative side of Amsterdam.

Café Ons Huis

This place is defenitely my favourite in Amsterdam. The café is located in the heart of the Jordaan and is part of the stylish Hotel Mercier.  You will find the café nearby the Anne Frank House and the beautiful canals.  After shopping in the "negen straatjes" (a very cosy shopping area)  this is my spot to have a nice lunch. Eyecatcher of the café is this unicorn and the beautiful tapestries made by fashion designer Cleas Iversen. More about the interior and design will follow later. A complete blog about this beautiful place will be online very soon!!

Amstel Hotel

The Amstel Hotel is one of the Grand Hotels in Amsterdam and is located in one of the most beautiful buildings in town. A place that's suitable for a King or Queen. In the hotel you will find Restaurant La Rive, a cosy bar and the Amstel Lounge. Beside the delicious food, nice drinks and the stylish entourage the hotel has a large terrace. From the terrace you have a beautiful view over the Amstel river. So if you want to see the fancy side of Amsterdam this is the place to be.

Hotel Twentyseven

This hotel opend it's doors in 2018 and is one of the most luxurious hotels in the Netherlands. But don't worry you don't have to be royalty of world famous to visit it. The interior is glamorous and a little bit over the top, but all on a divine way. With a very friendly staff and extremely delicious cocktails this is my favourite place to end a lovely day in Amsterdam.

Public Space

In Amsterdam you will find a great mix of styles. At the city centre you will find the old architecture and beautiful canals. But on the other side of het IJ you will find a more modern area. In this area you will find Public space. A coffeebar filled with vintage and modern furniture. Very simple but very Insta worthy. And the coffee they serve is very good ;-)!

Hotel Jakarta

A jungle and Amsterdam, a combination you won't expect. But this combination really exists. Just nearby the central station you can release your inner Tarzan or Jane at the Hotel Jakarta. The lobby of this hotel is filled with great tropical trees and plants.  In the restaurant you can order delicious food and enjoy the amazing view over the city.

Amsterdam part II

This was a selection of my favourite places, but there so many more spots that I like to share with you all. Amsterdam has a lot to offer! An extra blog with many more spots will follow soon! But for now I hope you will enjoy this first list! Wish you all the joy with exploring this beautiful city! Who knows maybe we will meet at one of my favourite locations!
